5 Must-Ask Questions Before Booking Your Wedding Photographer in UK

And once again — welcome to the series “Advice Nobody Asked For” :)
As a wedding photographer, here’s the exact list of questions I would ask another photographer before booking them for my own wedding.
1. What time will you start and finish on the wedding day?
A simple but very important question.
Many photographers work from bridal preparations until the first dance. Professional photographers usually stay from morning preparations through to the evening party — often beyond the first dance.
Imagine you’re having a summer wedding. The sun sets between 8–9pm and your first dance is at 7pm. If your photographer leaves right after the first dance, you’ll miss golden sunset portraits and the best party moments.
2. How will the photos be delivered?
Professional photographers usually offer a few delivery options — either a private online gallery on their website or Google Drive.
I personally recommend a private gallery. It’s convenient because you can share the password with your guests and family so they can download the photos too.
I never recommend storing your wedding photos only on a USB stick — it’s designed for transferring data, not long-term storage.
And if someone offers to send your wedding photos via Facebook… run. That’s not professional.
3. What is the delivery timeframe?
This question must be asked.
My clients receive sneak peek photos the next morning and their full gallery within a maximum of three weeks. Many professional photographers deliver within about a month.
If someone tells you it will take 12+ weeks, I would seriously question their workflow and professionalism.
4. What kind of photos do you want?
Before every Zoom consultation, I research the venue my couple has chosen and imagine the best photo locations.
During the call, we discuss ideas and plan everything together.Want photos at the bar? With fireworks? No problem — but your photographer needs to know in advance.
I once had a couple who didn’t mention that fireworks would go off behind them during their first dance. I wasn’t prepared with the right setup — and the moment was missed.
Communication makes all the difference.
5. How will you communicate with your photographer?
Very important. After signing the contract and paying the deposit, you might not speak for six months or even a year.
I recommend creating a WhatsApp group so all updates are in one place. You can even add your DJ, videographer or content creator. It saves time and avoids repeating the same information.
These are the simple questions I would personally ask before booking a wedding photographer.
I hope this helps you make the right choice for your big day.
